Susan Sharp earned an A.A. in education from Tidewater Community College in Virginia Beach, Virginia, a B.S. in psychology, graduating magna cum laude from Old Dominion University in Virginia and an M.S. in journalism from the University of Illinois in Champagne-Urbana. Her master’s project addressed the issue of balancing advancements in police technologies with civil rights, especially regarding fingerprint databases, surveillance equipment and police car equipment that allows law enforcement officials access to personal information by entering license plate numbers. She has worked at a features reporter for several newspapers, including the Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk, Virginia and the Daily Press newspaper in Newport News, Virginia. She has hiked about 800 miles of the Appalachian Trail and hopes to complete the remainder of the 2,200-mile footpath without being eaten by bears. She lives in Terre Haute with her kitty, Puffycat, who rules the household with an iron paw.
