Sycamore Video Graduate: Caitlin Spaulding

ISU and Sycamore Video graduate Caitlin Spaulding completed her internship at Country Music Television in Nashville, Tennessee last summer. Recently she was given a full-time position working at CMT, where she has already produced a country music video. We were fortunate enough to have Caitlin snap the photographs featured above of the production studio at CMT, giving us a glimpse of what it is like to work in a professional environment. The staff at Sycamore Video appreciates all of the hard work she put into our blog during her time at ISU, and we wish her the best of luck in her new and exciting career!

Sycamore Snapshots- 9/14/11

Many students were frightened this morning at around 10:30am when a bat showed up and decided to take a nap hanging from the ceiling on the 9th floor of Sandison Hall. Students were afraid to pass under it, fearing it would attack. To their surprise, it stayed silent. The bat has been hiding on the 9th floor since the beginning of school.

Suicide Prevention Night

Students and staff attended an event in Cunningham Memorial Library on Sept. 8th, which brought awareness to the increase in depression and suicide in college students. The Student Counseling Center sponsored the event and provided snacks and beverages for those present. The event started with the film "The Truth About Suicide: Real Stories of Depression in College". Afterward a discussion was held.

Sycamore Snapshots- 9/11/11

ISU students gathered around the fountain on the night of September 11th to honor those who passed away on that tragic day in 2001. Each student was given a candle for the vigil, which then led to a silent walk around campus to conclude the event.

The Blues Festival was held in downtown Terre Haute, which took place last Friday and Saturday. Both ISU students and people from the Wabash Valley gathered to listen to musicians, drink, socialize, and have fun at this lively festival.

Sorority Recruitment At ISU

Sorority Recruitment Week started Tuesday September 6th, and ended Sunday September 11th with "Sorority Bid Day".

ISUCON

ISU students gathered last Friday and Saturday to celebrate their favorite video games during the first ISUCON, a play off of the annual comic convention Comic-Con. During the event, students were able to participate in role-playing, battles, and board games. There was also a store where students could buy their favorite action and simulation games.

Sycamore Video Graduate: Matt Ulm Part of Award Winning Film

ISU and Sycamore Video graduate Matt Ulm recently worked on a film titled "Jacob's Turn" in Floyds Knobs, Indiana that was nominated for two Emmy awards.

"Jacob's Turn" is the story of Jacob Titus, a young man with Down's Syndrome that helped prove to an entire community special needs does not always equate to special treatment. This baseball loving Hoosier was given the opportunity to play Tee Ball, just like every other boy hopes and prays for, ending in a championship game and an entire town full of broken stereotypes.

Ulm graduated Summa Cum Laude in May of 2000 with a degree in Radio/TV/Film and counts Sycamore Video Director and Professor Jeffrey Perkins, along with Professors Joe Tenerelli and Paul Hightower as great influences on his time at ISU and in his post-graduation work. On "Jacob's Turn" his primary job was running location sound but, as with any small production, filled in as best he could to support the success of the production team and the project.

As proof of all their hard work "Jacob's Turn" was awarded a Silver Telly in 2011, and eventually two Emmy nominations for Director - Short Form and Human Interest - News. On July 30th, 2011 Amardeep Kaleka, with co-director Nick Nanton, won an Emmy for their work as Director and both stated that the project would not have been possible without the support and expertise of their team.

ISU Students noticed upon returning to their classes this semester that 5th Street is now a two lane road. This makes transportation through campus more convenient, especially to those who live in the dorms in that area.

Welcome Back Party

The Barnes and Noble Bookstore held a "Welcome Back to ISU Party" on Monday for new and returning students. DJ "Just Plain Joe" hosted the event with a live broadcast from the Mix FM van and gave away prizes. Students and faculty enjoyed free food, great music, a "dunking booth", and games such as Corn Hole.
